At the gate of this year, I felt that God was speaking two words very clearly to me: INTENTION and PURPOSE.
I felt that He was challenging me and it sounded a lot like this: “I want you to live this year of 2017 with this focus: live out each day with Intention and Purpose. Don’t waste your time and your days, but rather make choices throughout each day that will reflect thoughtfulness, intentionality and purposefulness. For example, be intentional about what you do with the time and energy you have. Be purposeful in choosing your goals and chasing your dreams and your passions. Be intentional in the time you spend with Me … in relationship, in Bible reading, in study, in journaling. In other words get back to actually doing it and not just thinking or talking about it. Look to Me for instruction and direction in every area of your life, and then determine to take steps of action to follow and obey.”
There is no doubt in my mind, that when God speaks something like this, He is talking my language. He is telling me that my mandate is to live for God with Intention and Purpose in every area of my life … spirit, soul and body … financial, social and cultural.
This would include areas such as relationships – God, family, friends, co-workers; job/career; home and time management; leisure –fun, rest, de-stress; health – nutrition, fitness, emotional and mental well being; money; justice issues; prayer; church, personal growth, etc.
And so – lest I be in this on my own (Lol!), I am inviting you to join me in this year long journey of living with Intention and Purpose. I am truly excited to see what God will do when we live out our lives this way. And so my question to you is this: what would this look like in your life?
Do you know what the purposes of God are for your life? What are the intentions of God’s heart toward you? Are you chasing after and diligently pursuing Him? Are you cooperating and aligning yourself with Him and His directives? Are you working with Him to achieve your goals? Do these goals lead you along the path to His purposes?
Psalm 5:3 says ‘In the morning You hear my voice O Lord; in the morning I prepare a prayer, a sacrifice for You and watch and wait for You to speak to my heart.’ What would it be like if we got out of bed every morning, having already made up our mind to approach our day with intentionality and purposefulness?
What is one thing that God wants to speak to our hearts? He desires to speak of His plans and purposes for us. Jeremiah 29:11-13 says,
‘For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you.
Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me as a vital necessity and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.’
How then do we make the most of every day? How do we accomplish all God has for us and live out the full purposes of God? Wherever we are in our own life, we can all strive for excellence in our pursuit of purposeful living. Here are a few tips to get us started on our journey – in no particular order:
* start your day with God; submit your day to Him
* stick to the plan – God has a plan for you!
* make up your mind – the choice is yours – set your mind on what you want
* stop wasting time – recognize those things which bear little or no fruit
* stay focused
* distractions – make a list and get rid of them
* be determined – stick to your assignment
* journal – write down desires, passions, prayers, God’s wisdom, leading, instruction

We can fulfill God’s vision for our lives by living with purpose and intention. Living on purpose – for a purpose truly lines up with God’s intentions for us and His Kingdom. Let’s not be passive, but let’s fight for this life that God wants for us! Don’t ever give up but determine in your heart to live daily with Intention and Purpose. God has amazing plans for each one of us. He wants us to fulfill our dreams and live a life of blessing, hope and promise.
